FOUNDER - Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction
Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction is an educational institution with its own place and prestige among the higher educational institutions of our country, with rich educational traditions, strong intellectual and personnel potential. Founded in 1975 by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, the university teaches in Azerbaijani, Russian and English. The teaching staff consists of 595 people. About 10,000 students study in 25 bachelor's and 26 master's degrees in 8 faculties. There are about 700 foreign students from 14 countries of the world. The university has a College of Construction and a Lyceum with a Physics and Mathematics orientation, and since 2010, the Design Institute has been operating. There are 4 educational buildings with a total area of 49,000 m2, a student campus and a sports complex.
Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzMIU) has operated as a Faculty of Construction within the Baku Polytechnic Institute since 1920, an independent Institute of Construction and Architecture in 1930–1934, an independent Institute of Construction and Architecture in 1934, a part of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute, and a part of the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute since 1951, combining several faculties of construction and architecture. In 1975, the Azerbaijan Institute of Civil Engineers was established by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
By the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 1992, the Azerbaijan Institute of Civil Engineers was transformed into the Azerbaijan University of Civil Engineers.
Doctor of Architectural Sciences, Professor Gulchohra Huseyn gizi Mammadova was appointed the rector of the University of Civil Engineers by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated January 14, 2000.
By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated June 13, 2000, the Azerbaijan University of Construction and Engineering was renamed the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction.
Professor Gulchohra Huseyn gizi Mammadova was elected a deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the 2nd convocation (2000-2005) and the 4th convocation (2010-2015), was awarded the honorary title of Honored Architect in 2006, was awarded the French “Academician of the Palm Cavalier” order in 2009, was awarded the “Academician Mikayil Useynov” commemorative medal in 2012, was awarded the “Shohrat” order for active participation in the public and political life of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2013, was awarded the “Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan” for her services to the development of education in Azerbaijan in 2016, and was awarded the “100th Anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918-2018)” jubilee medal in 2019 by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
